UK Treasury Seeking to Restructure Remote Betting Gaming Tax

UK Treasury Seeking to Restructure Remote Betting Gaming Tax

A proposal to move away from the current three-tax structure is reportedly advancing as pressure mounts to introduce a £100m statutory gambling levy on the industry, proposed in 2024 as part of the UK White Paper on gambling.

The proposal aims to simplify the tax of bookmakers by enforcing separate tax rates on General Betting Duty (GBD), Remote Gaming Duty (RGD) and Pool Betting Duty (PBD) and the Treasury have emphasised that the latest action seeks to 'reduce bureaucracy'.

Grainne Hurst, Betting & Gaming Council CEO, stated: “A duty rise would simply jeopardise bookmakers’ contributions on the economy, on sport, on growth and jobs. Regulated betting and gaming is popular, safe and one of Britain’s few global business success stories.”
